ABSC Boosts Australian Cue Sports Coaching

“The importance of developing a talent pool of players in Australia is vital.” Alex Render – ABSC President

The Australian Billiards and Snooker Council (ABSC) ably championed by Bill Horner (ABSC players delegate) set off on a mission to turbo charge coaching and development in Australia.

After several months of hard work with the great team at the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA), the ABSC is proud to announce that Australia has adopted the modern WPBSA coaching standard. This resulted in acquiring prized training positions for the WPBSA level 1 coaching certification. The ABSC then announced this to its membership opening an application process for all interested people earlier in the year.

This course took 18 of our budding Aussie coaches through a two-day course culminating in several hours with ex tour professional Nigel Bond.

We are now pleased to announce the following people have achieved the WPBSA level 1 coaching certification & have been registered on the WPBSA find a coach website.

·         South Australia: Glenn Domeika

·         Tasmania: Rex Swain

·         Queensland: Paul O’Shea, Shaun Wang, Paul Talbot, Alice Wu and Bill Horner

·         Victoria: Paul Thomerson, Alec Spyrou and Julie Watson

·         New South Wales: Greg Jenkins, Alan McCarthy, Tony Marsh, Malcolm Winter, Mark Harper, Mustafa Ansari, Gareth Hampson and Michael Boyne

The next step for some of these coaches is to take on the more arduous level 2 course and the ABSC and other states are working towards this very important step.

The certification allows these Australian coaches to run an Australian version of this course to train more Australian coaches to the same standard.

We would like to thank everyone in each state and Chris Lovell from the WPBSA and the ABSC board for their support.

More work lays ahead for us all as we work towards maximising the value of this important step to help improve Australian talent.

More information will be released shortly.
