How to become an accredited coach in your State

The minimum requirement to officially coach in any State is an ABSC Level 1 Coaching Certification or WPBSA Level 1 Coaching Certification.


To be eligible for an ABSC Snooker or Billiards NSW accreditation applicants must include with their application the following certificates:


·         A current ‘Working with Children Certificate’ (or equivalent as issued by each Australian state).

·         A current ‘Police Check’ certificate (or equivalent as issued by each Australian state).

·         The six mandatory Sport Integrity Australia on-line courses for coaches:

a.    Anti-doping Fundamentals

b.    Coaches Course

c.    National Integrity Framework

d.    Safeguarding Children and Young People in Sport

e.    Competition Manipulation and Sports Gambling

f.     The most recent Annual Update

Note: The Sport Integrity Australia on-line courses are available on the Sports Integrity Australia website via a SIA eLearning Login. You will need to create an account to access the courses and once completed you will be sent an electronic certificate of attainment. There is no cost to create an account or complete the on-line courses.


Additional requirements are:

·         Speak, read and write English to a reasonable level.

·         Have played a cue sport for more than 2 years.

·         Be capable of making a 20 break at snooker if the course is designed for snooker or 20 break at billiards if the course is designed for billiards.

·         Hold financial membership of a Member State of the ABSC

·         Be at least 18 years of age

·         Be available to fulfil a minimum 8 hours of course work and 8 hours of coaching practice

·         Have signed the ABSC Code of Conduct for Coaches form

·         Have read and have a current copy of the Billiards and Snooker Rule Book

·         Be approved by the ABSC board and/or State body

 Courses are normally held over 2 days and include classroom and practical workshops.

Course Fees

The 2 day course fee is $200 payable on acceptance of application.

On successful completion of the course you will:

·         Be recognised as an official ABSC snooker coach

·         Receive an ABSC certificate certifying snooker accreditation to Level-1 coaching standard

·         Receive an ABSC coaching polo shirt

·         Have your coaching details entered in the ABSC coaching database for coaching enquiries

·         Be covered for basic public liability insurance whist coaching

·         Receive a White to Black coaching manual

·         Receive additional coaching help documentation as it comes available to the ABSC head coach
