Significant Leadership Opportunity – Chair, Executive Working Group
Help shape the future of billiards and snooker in Australia.
The Australian Billiards & Snooker Council (ABSC) is seeking expressions of interest from experienced and motivated individuals for the newly established position of Chair – Executive Working Group (EWG).
As part of an exciting transformation of our national operating model, the ABSC is establishing an Executive Working Group to strengthen operational leadership, improve national coordination and support the continued growth and development of billiards and snooker across Australia.
This is an opportunity to take on a senior national leadership role and make a meaningful and long-lasting contribution to the future of our sports.
About the Role
Reporting to the ABSC Board, the Chair will lead the Executive Working Group and oversee five key functional areas:
· National Tournaments & Championships – Supporting the planning and delivery of national competitions.
· Development – Growing participation and pathways, particularly for women, juniors and people with disability.
· Coaching Programs – Strengthening national coaching capability and development.
· Referee Development – Supporting the recruitment, training and advancement of referees.
· IT & Systems – Improving digital platforms, competition systems and supporting technology.
The Chair will provide leadership, coordination and oversight across these areas, translating the ABSC’s strategic priorities into practical operational outcomes. The role will work closely with State associations, players, officials, volunteers and other stakeholders to build a more collaborative, effective and sustainable national sporting organisation.
The initial task of the Chair, in consultation with the State associations and all participants, will be to establish the structure of the EWG including the processes for appointment to Working Groups, identifying committed individuals willing to make a contribution in each area, and ensuring that all facets of our sport are represented through the overall composition of the EWG. This is a key aspect of the role, and will provide the basis for the long-term success of the EWG and ongoing engagement with all participants in our sports.

· Strong communication, collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills.
· The ability to lead and motivate teams, including volunteers.
· Experience in operational planning, coordination and delivering outcomes.
· Sound judgement, integrity and an understanding of good governance.
· A genuine passion for the development and future of Australian billiards and snooker.
Experience in sporting administration or national sporting organisations will be highly regarded, although candidates with other relevant leadership experience are encouraged to express their interest.
Appointment and Remuneration
This is a national leadership appointment, but it is expected that most activity will be undertaken digitally, with occasional travel as required.
A modest fee may be considered for an exceptional candidate, subject to experience, suitability and arrangements approved by the ABSC Board. Approved out-of-pocket costs will be reimbursed by the ABSC.
Term
The role of Chair will be for an initial term of 12 months, following which it is expected that the position will be elected by representatives of State associations through a process to be developed.
