ABSC Child Safeguarding
The ABSC has received a couple of questions recently on its Child Safety policies. Child Safety is a significant issue in all sports, and the ABSC takes its obligations to provide a safe environment for juniors very seriously.
The ABSC and all its Member State organisations adopted the policies of the National Integrity Framework in June 2022. This Framework is administered by Sports Integrity Australia (SIA), which is the Commonwealth body set up to manage serious issues in all sports relating to Child Safety, Drugs in Sport, Match Fixing & Wagering and Unlawful Discrimination. The Child Safety policy is extremely comprehensive, including detailed reporting requirements and case management processes, and can be found here: <LINK>. All Child Safety matters MUST be reported to both the ABSC and SIA, and management of the issue will be led by SIA.
A slightly revised version of all the NIF policies will be adopted by the ABSC and Member States in the coming month or so, and will be posted on all websites and social media channels.
SIA is holding a webinar on Child Safety issues across all sports “The What, Why and How behind Safeguarding Children and Young People in Sport” on Wednesday 8 November, 7.30 – 8.30pm AEDT. All participants in our sport – players, volunteers and parents - are welcome to register via this link: TEAMS LINK
If members have questions about Child Safety, or any other ABSC policies (the full suite can be found at www.absc.com.au/governance) please post them on the ABSC Facebook page or email secretary@absc.com.au.
