Mahoney Breaks the Ton at MatchrooM
20 Feb 2010

Aaron Mahoney leads the high break table at the MatchrooM Open heading into the quarter finals with a break of 104. The break helped him seal victory over fellow Victorian Ben Nunan 3-0 in the Round of 16.

Conditions were trying in the heat and humidity of Adelaide, which meant that only two other breaks over 50 were scored in the first two days – 86 to Leigh Senko and 73 to Paul Thomerson.

The upset of the day came as local player Justin Farrer trounced the reigning Australian Open Snooker Champion 3-0. Top seed Glen Wilkinson survived a scare against both SA stalwart Peter Udycz and the ever improving Charlie Chafe, winning both matches 3-2. Wilkinson now faces Vinnie Calabrese in the quarter finals.

Other quarter final matches see James Mifsud up against Aaron Mahoney, Alex Render taking on Rudy Sulaeman, and Paul Balzer in a rematch of their encounter in the 2009 Pot Black Open at The MatchrooM against Steve Mifsud, where Balzer came away the victor 3-1.

With $20,000 and double points on offer, The MatchrooM Open promises to deliver an exciting start to the 2010 ranking tournament series. For full results and details, click here
